Republican prisoner beaten in Maghaberry

Harry Fitzsimmons from West Belfast is the latest republican prisoner to be attacked and beaten by the screws in Maghaberry.  Harry was only recently returned to Maghaberry following his extradition from the 'Free State' on an European arrest warrant.  The latest information regarding Harry's ordeal is that on Thursday 6th May protesting republican prisoners in Maghaberry were informed by the screws that if they didn't unblock the flaps on their cell doors they would be put on 24 hr lock-up.  The prisoners refused the screws' demands.  Later on, after a verbal confrontation between Harry and an SO (senior officer) which took place with Harry behind a locked cell door, the SO ordered the screws to raise the alarm.  A riot squad entered Harry's cell and forcibily removed him to the boards.  It was at this stage that Harry was attacked and beaten by the riot squad.  As well as being beaten Harry was also handcuffed to the bed and his clothes were cut of him.  A priest who visits the jail has confirmed that Harry sustained several injuries.
