Prison Protest Escalates

The POWs have escalated their protest this afternoon by mixing faeces with urine and putting it out the doors.  The decision to step up the protest is a clear indication that the prisoners are unhappy with the present situation. Dispite delegations going into the jail from SF and the 'justice committee', as well as the report released by the ombudsman, the prisoners have yet to see any real engagement on the part of the prison administration.  Nothing they have been told thus far convinces them of the intentions of those with the power and influence to address their grivences through a process of real change.

More than ever they need our support on the outside to move things forward. Our job is to build the support for their demands to the point were the internal body politic realises the absolute need to resolve the problem in the jail.  As the prisoners redouble their efforts so must we redouble ours.

You can write to politicians, newspapers, churches, human rights groups, prisons dept etc.  During the blanket protest and hunger strikes we wrote to everyone and anyone to highlight the situation. Print up leaflets, stickers, petitions and anything else you think would help to raise awareness in your community or town. If you have a group of friends set up a support group and contact the Families, Friends and Ex-POWs campaign group
